1. Why do I have to pledge to become a brother?
Our fraternity has thrived for so many years because we teach young men to learn what true brotherhood means. This is taught during a pledging period.
2. How long does this pledging period last?
Kappa Sigma Epsilon follows Alfred State’s pledging policies and guidelines, this period lasts for 4 weeks. The first 2 weeks are informals, a chance for us to learn about you. The last 2 weeks are formals; these weeks are spent learning about Kappa Sigma Epsilon’s traditions and values.
3. Can I be blackballed or 86ed from pledging Kappa Sigma Epsilon?
No, we pride ourselves in providing an environment that allows all the young men who pledge Kappa sigma Epsilon an opportunity in which they can reach for their goals. We do not exclude any young man because of his creed, color or culture.
4. Can I pledge if I’m a first semester freshman?
No, under Alfred State’s pledging policies and guidelines, first semester freshman are not allowed to pledge a fraternity or sorority. Please refer to the pledging policy link found on the pledging web page.
5. Does Kappa Sigma Epsilon own a house for its brothers?
No, presently we do not own a house in the Alfred community. Our fraternity has lasted the tests of time because the brotherhood we share is stronger than any building built for any fraternity anywhere.
6. Will I be forced to drink or take part in illegal activities to be a brother?
No, we do not believe in ridiculous behavior or illegal activity while pledging Kappa Sigma Epsilon or after you become a brother. Our Fraternity thrives on being a gentleman’s fraternity. Any behavior that jeopardizes our reputation has serious consequences.
7. Is pledging Kappa Sigma Epsilon more important than attending classes?
We believe that a student’s first and foremost responsibility is graduating college. All prospective pledges will have to maintain a 2.0 GPA to be allowed to pledge any fraternity. Your time pledging Kappa Sigma Epsilon and being a brother is just a bonus. The learning and education you receive while in class along with the brotherhood and dedication you learn while active as a Kappa Sigma Epsilon brother will allow you to reach for any goal or overcome any obstacle life has to offer you.
8. Once I graduate from Alfred State College, am I still a brother?
Once you learn and educate yourself about our fraternity and the beliefs we hold close to our hearts. You will have the opportunity to be part of the most complex fraternity in the world. Our fraternity spans far beyond the small sleepy “happy valley” of Alfred, NY. Our fraternity is present in all Four Corners of North America. There are pockets of brothers living with each other or near each other in California, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, Vermont and New Hampshire. Including all the small and large cities of New York. You will always be a brother no matter where you are or what you’re doing
9. Once I start to pledge Kappa Sigma Epsilon, can I quit the pledging process and start again later?
You can quit pledging at anytime you feel your grades are slipping or if you feel that the pledging experience is not for you. You can start pledging the following semester again, however you must start the pledging period from the beginning.
10. Are active Kappa Sigma Epsilon brothers, who attend Alfred State College able to obtain financial assistance through the fraternity organization?
Yes, the Kappa Sigma Epsilon fraternity has a scholarship fund set up through the Alfred State College Development Fund. This scholarship is offered to Kappa Sigma Epsilon brothers who meet the specific criteria set up by the college and fraternity.
